August 07, 2012After three years since Ondoy, the Philippines is again suffering from non-stop rain and strong winds. 90% of Metro Manila is already submerged in waist-high or worse, two-story high floodwaters. Many people were forced to evacuate because of this calamity and others are still patiently waiting for a rescue on top of their houses. Classes and even some offices are suspended again for two to three consecutive days now. Some would associate this disaster with God's wrath due to the RH Bill while some would make a biblical reference to Genesis 8: 7-12, which discusses about Noah's Ark. No matter how people would try to religiously reason out things, I firmly believe that the tragedy is a result of man-made activities i.e. improper garbage disposal, deforestation, and lack of preparation. Thank God I'm one of the people who still sits perfectly fine in front of her computer and just checking out for news updates through social media. My family and I are still lucky we reside in a higher ground level that isn't prone to floods comparing it to a now deluged Cainta, which only takes us only a five to ten-minute ride going there. I wanted to lend a hand to those in need in this desperate times if only the roads leading there are passable. Then again, prayer works as much as well. I'm also taking advantage of my unemployment status since I'm not forced to go to work despite the heavy downpour unlike most of my batch mates who are figuring out whether or not to push through. Meanwhile, I was catching up with a few of my High School friends last night. It was a rare opportunity for us to be online all at the same time due to our busy schedules but because of the current situation, time permitted us to be. Zari and I bombarded Pat's status then Tin later on joined the FB thread. The next day. I woke up feeling warm in my pink sweater after a very cold day. The sun had finally came out!! I even saw some tweets about the brighter tomorrow not until the sky darkened once again and rain fell hard. There was also a tweet regarding a landslide in our subdivision and needs immediate rescue. Just because we're not in a flood-prone area doesn't make us any safer from landslides too. Apparently the rain took a break when the sun came out earlier today. Pesky monsoon. PRAYER works miraculously. To everyone out there, take care and stay dry! Labels: life, rainy days Cold Sheets |
There are two types of seasons in a tropical country like the Philippines: rainy and dry. Last May 31, Kuya Kim the Weather-weather man announced that the rainy season has begun in the PH. Goodbye beaches and pools, shades and swimsuits, the white sand and hot sun. Goodbye summer. And just like that, we're already half-way done in 2012! Since most of the time we'll experience a heavy downpour and cold outdoors, this is a perfect time to get bummed out and cuddle up in your blanket with a good cup of hot chocolate while reading a favorite book, watching a movie or listening to relaxing music. I was born with lazy bones but today wasn't any different. Who wouldn't feel any lazier and perhaps sleepier at a time like this? I woke up today and it was raining pretty hard that it made me want to stay in bed and sleep all day. So today I've decided to create my first ever impromptu 13-track mixtape which I think best suits the rainy and gloomy mood, and I'd also like it to share to everyone. Hope you guys will enjoy! Image: odciody Edit: While some of the songs randomly popped in my head so I included them in the mixtape, there are also songs which have a story behind my approval. For an instance, "This Modern Love" by Bloc Party was featured in HIMYM S1 finale scene where Ted made it rain so Robin wouldn't leave the town and they shared a kiss. MJ's cover of "If This Was A Movie" originally sung by Taylor Swift was included since in the last part of the video it was raining as well. I added three of the most popular rain-related songs in the OPM industry. Aside from Rivermaya and PNE, Neocolors' "Sukob Na", a well-known ABS-CBN's station ID was the best version for me that captures the chillax vibe of the season. :) Labels: indie rock, mixtape, music, OPM, rainy days, random |
